Water Heater Warranty Information

Water heaters are essential to maintaining a comfortable home, and understanding the warranty information can make all the difference in extending the appliance’s lifespan. In this blog, we provide you with essential information to ensure your water heater runs smoothly and remains covered under warranty for as long as possible.

Understanding Water Heater Warranties

Water heater warranties are a promise from the manufacturer to repair or replace your water heater if it fails within a specified period due to defects or materials used. The warranty period typically ranges from 6 to 12 years, depending on the brand and model. Knowing the terms and coverage offered by the manufacturer allows you to use the water heater worry-free and with confidence.

Most tank water heaters come with warranties that range from 6 to 12 years for residential models. Tankless water heaters, on the other hand, tend to have longer warranties, often lasting up to 20 years. It’s crucial to understand that while the warranty covers issues like leaks from rust or corrosion, some situations, such as improper installations or damage from water pressure issues, may not be covered.

Factors Affecting Warranty Validity

To keep your water heater covered by its warranty, correct installation, and proper maintenance are essential. Poor installation practices or neglecting maintenance may void your warranty, leaving you liable for costly repairs. Manufacturers usually require you to flush your water heater annually, replace sacrificial anodes when needed, and maintain proper water pressure to avoid voiding your warranty.

Regular maintenance helps detect potential issues early, allowing for timely repairs that can prevent warranty avoidance. It’s recommended that you follow the manufacturer’s guidelines strictly, schedule periodic professional inspections, and keep all maintenance records for warranty claims.

Maintenance Tips to Protect Your Warranty

Proper maintenance is vital for prolonging the life of your water heater. This includes regular flushing to remove mineral build-up, replacing the sacrificial anode rod periodically, and monitoring the pressure relief valve to prevent malfunctions. Routine checks for leaks and rust can also prevent significant issues before they start.

Common Water Heater Brands and Their Warranties

Homeowners in the United States have access to various reputable water heater brands, including AO Smith, Rheem, Bradford White, Bosch, and Rinnai. Each brand offers different warranty terms, but they all require routine maintenance to uphold the warranty coverage. Understanding the manufacturer’s specific requirements for warranty coverage is key to ensuring your water heater remains protected.

On 8/5/26 My Georgia Plumber did a very complete and professional plumbing inspection that was included FREE with my Home Care Club Membership. During the inspection, I pointed out the low water flow in the two master bathroom sinks. James T determined the cause was clogged aerators in both of the Moen faucets. He said they needed to be replaced. My Georgia Plumber provided an estimate of the replacement cost. On 8/14/26 James T and his associate replaced the two aerators and now the water flow is very good. THANKS FOR THE GREAT WORK, GUYS!!

I was very pleased with the service. It was punctual and effective; the job was done properly—something others had failed to do, which was why the problem persisted. Thank you

Rhett went above and beyond! Our disposal was not working, it was still under warranty with its manufacturer. I called the manufacturer’s customer service. Rhett took the time to speak to them directly and resolved the issue. He also installed a new seal ring on our half-bath toilet. He did a great job! I always have an excellent experience when I call My Georgia Plumber.
